In 1986, a handful of dedicated volunteers with a passion for sports began a football team in the City of Westminster as a means of creating opportunities for young people. Several years later and following substantial growth in activities, London Tigers was formally constituted as a voluntary organisation (1997) and achieved Charity status in 2003.

From humble beginnings, London Tigers is now an expansive charity delivering projects across London and the UK as well as undertaking charitable work abroad. With several branches across the country, the organisation currently has over registered 3,000 regular members and benefits over 10,000 people, with numbers growing at an almost exponential rate. Over 70 staff members and 100 volunteers (who between them speak over 20 different languages) are working tirelessly to help achieve our organisational vision, mission and underpinned by our core values.

Our Vision:

'A world where every individual has the opportunity to fulfil their dreams'.

Our Mission Statement:

'To eradicate the inequalities faced by BAME, disadvantaged and refugee communities by empowering them to improve their lives.'

Our Core Values:

  • Empowerment: With unwavering commitment, we engage and support our service users such that they build personal, social and economic resilience to take ownership of their lives.

  • Equality: We believe that every person is equal and entitled to freedom, justice, peace and opportunity. We celebrate the richness of diversity in human personality, culture and contribution.

  • Excellence: By passionately working together with all stakeholders, we challenge each other to achieve the highest levels of professional excellence.

  • Integrity: Embracing honesty, fairness, ethical principle and delivering the utmost value to our stakeholders, we believe integrity is the foundation of our individual and collective actions that drives our organisation.

  • Stewardship: We take great care of the resources entrusted to us by others, whether this is money, time or trust, and we are open and transparent in our reporting.

We understand that there are a multitude of reasons why people do not have access to opportunity and it is a sad truth that some sections of society are more disadvantaged than others; this is why we target our work in what are statistically some of the most deprived areas of the country, working closely with those traditionally seen as hard-to-reach, e.g. Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, refugees, asylum seekers, young people not in employment, education or training (NEET), offenders and others.

We also understand that for many individuals and communities from these areas there are usually a number of problems affecting their access to opportunity such as lack of adequate educational attainment or poor health, and this is why we focus our project development and delivery across the following themes:

  • Upskilling People

  • Keeping Communities Safe

  • Improving Health and Wellbeing

  • Providing Sporting Pathways

  • Creating Progress Abroad

We strongly believe that in modern society and particularly within certain communities, the needs of women and young people are not given the priority they deserve and as an organisation we have dedicated resources to working specifically with these groups to identify needs and opportunities.

Working in partnership is at the heart of the London Tigers’ ethos, whether it be with other voluntary organisations or charities, local authorities, statutory service providers or private sector organisations; the task we have set ourselves is an ambitious one and we know we can’t achieve it without the help of like-minded individuals and organisations.
